Frequently Asked Questions
- Will I Have to Stand Up In Front
of People?
Some churches call on their visitors to stand up during
the service and introduce themselves. While the people at
First Christian Church are genuinely interested in getting
to know you and making you feel welcome, we will never call
on you or embarrass you in any way. You can relax and enjoy
meeting people at your own pace.
- Will I have to dress up?
No, you don't. We encourage people to dress comfortably.
For some, that may mean dressing up, but for others it means
wearing casual clothes. The New Testament simply instructs
us to dress modestly and decently. So, we do not burden
people unnecessarily by requiring them to dress up in fancy
clothes they do not normally wear. We want everyone to come,
be comfortable, and enjoy learning about God together.
- Where will my children go during
the service?
Your children will love First Christian Church! Our children's
ministries include a Children's Moment during worship, then
children pre-school ages 3 - 5 can leave the sanctuary for
Wee Worship. We provide a safe, comfortable nursery for
ages Birth to 3 years or, if you prefer, we have a comfortable
"cry room" where you can rock your child and still
see and hear the worship service in progress.
- What's the Preaching Like?
The sermon has two primary purposes: to celebrate God's
love revealed through the Christ, and to present the relevancy
of the Bible to the issues of today.
- What kind of music do you have?
Our service is a blend of traditional and contemporary worship.
We praise God in traditional and contemporary hymns and
praise songs, through both instrumental and vocal music.
- Prayer
It is our privilege to bring praise, thanksgiving, confession
and requests to God through prayer.
- Can I take communion in your
church?
On the night that Jesus Christ was betrayed, He ate dinner
with his disciples, telling them about His upcoming death
and asking them to "do this in remembrance of me".
As Disciples, we celebrate the Lord's Supper each Sunday.
We observe "open communion" which means anyone
who believes in Jesus Christ is welcome to participate regardless
of church affiliation. Communion is a weekly reminder of
God's unconditional love poured out for us through the life,
death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Do you collect an offering?
We collect an offering to support the work of our church,
worthy causes in our community, and missions work in our
country and around the world.
- What if I still have questions?
Feel free to contact us and
we'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.
