While
our denomination, Disciples of Christ, was founded in
America in the early 1800s, First Christian Church,
Port Arthur was established in 1904. It has faithfully
served its members and the community ever since.
We are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
Our vision is to be a faithful, growing church, which
demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality
and a passion for justice.
Our mission is to teach, celebrate and share our faith.
That faith is centered on the belief that God has provided
for our salvation through Jesus Christ and we are reminded
of our center of faith each week as we celebrate communion.
The chalice symbolizes the central place of communion
in worship for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The x-shaped cross of the disciple Andrew is a reminder
of the ministry of each person and the importance of
evangelism
